The basic foundation was staying in place but a few changes needed to be made. First the south windows in the basement needed enlarging to allow more light in and in the event of a catastrophe such as fire, occupants out (egress). So concrete saws were engaged to carve out the windows.
There was also a plan to expand the main floor four feet further back so this required pouring a grade beam on piles which in turn required hauling out the existing patio pad with a bobcat and truck.
Once the concrete slab was gone preparations started to pour piles to support the beam and decks and of course to form the grade beam.
The concrete was poured on 01 November using a concrete pump to deliver just over 11 metres to the appropriate spots. The beam forms held (although they bulged a bit at one corner), there was enough material to pour all the piles for the front and rear porches and almost enough to put a thin layer on the floor between the foundation and the new beam. We will have to handmix a few bags to finish. We also have new supporting footings in the basement for the floors and roof. So... we are essentially ready to start building back up again. Now we just need permits.... but that is another story not quite ready to be told.
